ABOUT
First and foremost, I’m a Scottish Photographer that specialises in the dynamic and pioneering use of the panoramic format – I’m one of the rare breed that still uses film to ensure I get the best results humanly possible; documenting Landscapes to Architecture and Cityscapes – you name it I document it. But in such a unique style and format that has seen me gain a reputation for standing out. This has seen me work with the likes of Mercedes Benz, Historic Scotland and cousins to the Queen – I’ve even been privileged enough to be the only freelancer in Scotland to document His Holiness the Dali Lama in his hotel room during his last visit. So yes I’m really rather good at what I do..
I’m also an author – and the photographer responsible for the very large murals you see in Edinburgh Airport; my story is one of constant learning and recognising an opportunity and grasping it with both hands.
Based in the Scottish Borders in the picturesque town of Innerleithen smack bang in the middle of the Tweed Valley; perfect for my interests in road race cycling, hill walking, dog walking and the occasional run. Recently I became a director of ‘Creative Borders’ – a brand being developed to inspire local creative rural talent in the region to work together and ultimately for the benefit of the region and beyond; its not always about accepting big city agencies and even larger fee’s, there is another way… and as such I’m now adding my marketing and branding knowledge gained over the past few years to the ultimate benefit of all creative talent in the Scottish Borders.
I am fascinated by art and can often be found in local art galleries seeking inspiration; combined with the work of the old and new masters of photography in both Ansel Adams and Colin Prior – you can begin to understand where my vision and uncompromising approach to my art comes from.
I am mainly self taught; my background is quite technical in Print Management and my early career saw me working for The Glasgow Herald before taking a new opportunity in pursuing my lifelong passion for photography. Taking evening classes, using my own darkroom and being mentored by local industrial and portrait photographers in my late teens gave me the proper foundation of in-depth knowledge in how to master the technical challenges of photography.
Life now see’s me building the Panoramic brand of Jason Baxter; to sell my passion, my art and pioneering approach to both public and private sector, publishing is my next step in more books and ultimately a range of calendars…so watch this space!.
